Thompson High School proudly announces hiring Coach Major Deacon as the Head Coach of Thompson Mens Basketball. Coach Deacon comes to Thompson High School with a great resume full of diverse experience and success.
"Coach Deacon brings great energy and enthusiasm and wants to win. Our players and coaches look forward to working with him," Thompson High School Director of Athletics Vincent Pitts said. "Coach Deacon is an award-winning coach who knows what it takes to be successful."
Coach Deacon has prior experience with the Thompson Warriors, serving as an assistant basketball coach under former Thompson coach Dru Powell during the highly successful 2018-2019 season. He recently led the Boys Basketball Program at Albertville High School in Marshall County.
Coach Deacon brings a wealth of experience from all corners of the state and even the collegiate level. His career stops include Pleasant Home School, Austin High School, Baker High School, UMS-Wright, and Northwestern State University (Louisiana). Career highlights include 2024 Marshall County Coach of the Year, 2024 Marshall County Tournament Champions, and more than 100 wins as a head coach in AHSAA programs. Coach Deacon's record also boasts multiple area championships, regional appearances, and winning seasons.
Coach Major Deacon is an Alabama native and Baker High School (Mobile) graduate. He attended and played basketball for the University of Mobile before earning his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Alabama. Coach Deacon went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Health and Human Performance from Northwestern State University.
