Thompson resumes region play against Hewitt-Trussville

The back half of the race to the region championship and the 7A playoffs begins this week as
defending region champion Thompson faces Hewitt-Trussville in a crucial region match-up.
Hewitt comes in at 5-1 overall on the season and 2-1 in region play. Their lone loss was 8-7
against Hoover in the second week of region play. They came from behind to defeat Vestavia
Hills 18-14 and won big over Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 47-16. Their non-region wins are over JAG,
Gadsden City and Pinson Valley.
Thompson faced the Huskies twice last season, winning 40-14 in Trussville in the regular
season and 21-10 in the semifinals of the playoffs at Warrior Stadium. Hewitt hasn't defeated
Thompson since 2019 where the Huskies won 35-19. Thompson currently holds an 11-6 record
against Hewitt.
Hewitt is led by quarterback Noah Dobbins who replaces Peyton Floyd. Dobbins is 56/102 for
737 yards on the season 9 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, plus another 231 yards on the
ground and 4 rushing touchdowns. James Kelly leads all receivers with 281 yards and 4
touchdowns. Deuce Alston leads all rushers with 54 carries for 348 yards and 2 touchdowns.
For Thompson, Trent Seaborn is 68/112 for 773 yards with 7 touchdowns. Three receivers are
tied at the top between Darion Moseley, Pryce Lewis and RJ Evans with 131 yards. Michael
Dujon has been having a stellar season so far, rushing 56 times for 548 yards (averaging 9.8
yards per carry) with 6 touchdowns, plus another through the air. RJ Evans has rushed for 260
yards and 4 touchdowns.
On defense, Vini Pires, Trent Cheatom, Jared Smith, Micah Fleming and Anquon Fegans are
the top tacklers, with Jared Smith accumulating 11 tackles for loss so far this season including 5
sacks. Fegans has an interception along with two fumble returns for a touchdown.
This is a huge match-up for where each of these teams will be in the playoff bracket, as they
were the top two teams last season.
