For the seventh year in a row, the Thompson Warriors will be playing in the Super 7
state championship for class 7A. The Warriors advanced to the title game yet again
after a big 31-7 win over the Enterprise Wildcats Friday night.
Enterprise entered as the fourth seed from region 2, and started with a strong time-
consuming drive top open the game before stalling out in Thompson territory. They also
were able to hold Thompson to just 3 offensive points in the first half. However, the
defense stepped up in a big way, getting the lone touchdown of the half with 3:49 left in
the second quarter as
Cam Pritchett caused a fumble in the endzone that was picked
up by
Trent Cheatom. The score would stay 10-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Thompson controlled the majority of the third quarter, driving down
the field on their opening drive and scoring their first offensive touchdown thanks to an
RJ Evans run. Then after a kickoff return for a touchdown for Enterprise, the Warriors
answered back with yet another touchdown, this time to
Darion Moseley, before
Enterprise got the ball on offense for the first time in the second half, down 24-7.
The offense would score one more time, again courtesy of Moseley, to make the final
score 31-7. Moseley's two second half touchdowns and 106 yards receiving earned him
player of the game honors as he continues to be the leading receiver on this team.
Quarterback
Trent Seaborn finished the night 15/22 for 143 yards and the two
touchdowns to Moseley.
Michael Dujon rushed 13 times for 77 yards while
RJ Evans
carried 13 times for 65 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, the Warriors shut out the Enterprise offense and played strong all night. On
top of the fumble recovery for a touchdown,
Anquon Fegans got another turnover with a
big interception in the second half.
Thompson will now get a chance at revenge against Central-Phenix City as the Red
Devils defeated Hoover 17-7 in the other semifinal game. Central defeated Thompson
last year 21-19 in Tuscaloosa. It's a growing rivalry in the state championship game as
the two teams are tied 2-2 all-time with all four games being in the state championship.
It's the fifth time in Thompson's seven straight appearances that they will face Central.
The first championship game played at Protective saw Thompson win 38-22.
The Warriors are off this week for Thanksgiving as the other classifications play their
semifinal games, then the Super 7 state championship game will take place on
Wednesday, December 4 at 7 pm at Protective Stadium in Birmingham.
