Thompson High School Announces Nick Browder as New Varsity Women's Basketball Head Coach

Alabaster, AL – April 28, 2025 – Thompson High School is proud to announce the hiring of Nick Browder as the new Head Coach of the Varsity Women's Basketball Team. Coach Browder brings a proven track record of success, leadership, and player development to the Warriors program.

Browder joins Thompson after an impressive five-year tenure (2020-2025) as the Head Coach of the Hillcrest High School Women's Basketball Team in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. During his time at Hillcrest, he compiled an impressive 129-34 record, leading the Patriots to the 2025 AHSAA Class 7A State Championship Game. His teams made three consecutive Final Four appearances (2023-6A, 2024-6A, and 2025-7A), showcasing his consistency and excellence on the court.

Coach Browder is eager to get started and build on the recent athletic successes at Thompson High School.

"I am honored and excited to join Thompson High School," Browder said. "I look forward to working with our student-athletes, parents, and community to continue building a program we can all be proud of."

In 2024, Coach Browder was named the Alabama Association of Basketball Coaches (AABC) Class 6A Women's Coach of the Year, further solidifying his reputation as one of the top coaches in the state. Under his leadership, numerous student-athletes advanced to play at the collegiate level.

Before his achievements at Hillcrest, Browder served as the Head Boys Middle School Basketball Coach at Duncanville Middle School (2019-2020) and Hale County Middle School (2018-2019). His coaching journey is deeply rooted in Alabama, where he also starred as a player. A 2011 graduate of Hale County High School, Browder went on to play junior collegiate basketball at Shelton State Community College from 2011 to 2014.

He earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama in 2014 and later obtained a master's degree in Elementary Education from the University of West Alabama in 2021.

"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Browder to the Warrior family," Vincent Pitts, Thompson High School Director of Athletics, said. "His passion for developing young athletes, commitment to excellence, and winning pedigree make him a perfect fit for our program. We are excited for the future of Thompson Women's Basketball and will continue moving our program forward under his leadership."
