Alabaster, AL – July 9, 2025 – Just days into the month of July, as preparation ramps up for the 2025 season for both Auburn and Thompson, recent Thompson High School graduate Anquon "Newboy" Fegans returned to his alma mater to make a heartfelt gesture. After morning workouts, Fegans gathered with the Warrior football team to present a monetary donation aimed at bolstering the program's general budget. Among all of his former teammates and coaches Fegans offered some words of wisdom and presented the team with a check.
The financial gift comes at a pivotal moment, as Thompson seeks to sustain the excellence that Newboy was a part of establishing. A multi-year
MaxPreps First Team All-American,
Shelby County Player of the Year, and
Class 7A Back of the Year, Fegans leaves a lasting legacy that includes
234 career tackles, 22 interceptions, and pivotal roles in multiple state championship runs.
Fegans capped off his decorated senior year in January by claiming Alabama's prestigious
Class 7A Back of the Year honor and a spot on the
Super All-State Team. Shortly after, in late July 2024, he committed to Auburn University, becoming a cornerstone for the Tigers' elite 2025 recruiting class
"For Newboy to give back to Thompson football is really special", said Head Football Coach Mark Freeman. Coach Freeman stated further, "We are blessed with amazing kids and our expectation is that they do right and make us proud and we are certainly proud of Newboy. It is blessing that Anquon wanted to do this for his former teammate and coaches. We are certainly thankful to Newboy and his family.
This donation highlights Fegans's dedication to giving back—a display of gratitude and support for the program that helped launch his career. As Thompson football faces the familiar task of replacing its star safety and team leader, the added financial boost will help ensure the coaching staff has flexibility for equipment, training, and player development.
"What an amazing and generous gesture", said
Vincent Pitts, Director of Athletics for Thompson High School. "Newboy has always been a great player and fun-loving kid. We are excited to see him grow and prosper in this next chapter. We are very thankful to for his generosity."
Now embarking on his freshman season at Auburn—a program where his older brother Antwon Jr. also plays—Newboy's roots remain firmly planted in Alabaster. Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze and former co-defensive coordinator Charles Kelly, helped forge a stronger pipeline from Thompson, and Auburn will surely welcome his talent. But it's this donation that truly shows the depth of Fegans's character: a star athlete remembering—and uplifting—the team that supported him in the past him.
