Thompson quarterback Trent Seaborn typically enters the season with high expectations. For the third-straight season though, those expectations are backed up by national high school sports outlet MaxPreps.
The site named Seaborn as a Second Team Preseason All-American on Monday, Aug. 17, continuing a streak of selections dating back to before his sophomore season.
Seaborn heads into his senior season fresh off multiple accolades, including a MaxPreps Junior All-American First Team pick, his third-straight postseason All-American selection. The Alabama Sportswriters Association named him the Class 7A Back of the Year as well as to the Super All-State and Class 7A All-State First Team.
Locally, Seaborn was the Shelby County Player of the Year for football and made the All-County First Team. He was later named Shelby County Male Athlete of the Year.
Seaborn won his third state championship with the Warriors in 2025 behind a career-high 3,689 passing yards, which stood as the second-most in Alabama behind only Southside-Selma's Kole Moody.
He finished with 35 passing touchdowns and five rushing scores against just even interceptions. Seaborn also passed for 250 yards or more in 11 of his 14 starts.
That was capped off by 259 yards and three touchdowns in the state championship against Opelika. The win finished off a postseason where Seaborn and the Warriors also defeated Carver-Montgomery, Mary G. Montgomery and Central-Phenix City, all of whom were ranked in the top 10 of the ASWA rankings at one point in the season.
He also locked down his commitment to Alabama during the 2025 season, and fellow Alabama-bound senior Elijah Haven was named to the MaxPreps Preseason All-American First Team. Seaborn remains a consensus four-star quarterback in the Class of 2027.
Seaborn was one of just three players from the state of Alabama named to the First or Second Teams. The other two hailed from Vigor, including defensive end and Texas commit Jabarrius Garror on the First Team and linebacker and Auburn commit Issac McNeil on the Second Team.
Vigor was one of only four schools in the country with at least two selections. The others were Florida's St. Thomas Aquinas and IMG Academy as well as Arizona's Basha, all of which are ranked in the site's national top 25.
Seaborn and the Warriors will begin their title defense in the AHSAA Kickoff Classic against the Central Red Devils on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. at Garrett-Harrison Stadium in Phenix City. The game will be broadcast statewide on PBS and WOTM both over the air and by streaming.
