In Thompson's penultimate regular season game, the Warriors welcomed the Hoover Bucs for a
region title showdown that ended in another overtime heartbreaking loss, dropping Thompson to
6-3 overall and 5-1 in region play.
The game started with Hoover on a long drive down the field to give them the 7-0 lead. After a
long drive for the Warriors ended in a turnover on downs, the Bucs were able to add a field goal
to make it 10-0.
However, the Warriors didn't falter at all. After a costly turnover from the Bucs, Thompson was
able to capitalize on a 27-yard field goal from John Alan McGuire to cut the lead to 10-3. After
Thompson caused a fumble that was ruled an incomplete pass instead, the defense stood tall
as the first half neared it's end, giving the ball back to Thompson with just under two minutes
left.
Trent Seaborn was able to lead the Warriors down the field with
Michael Dujon tacking on a
5-yard touchdown run to make it 10-10 at halftime.
Hoover took it's opening drive of the second half down the field to make it 17-10, but Thompson
answered back again after a long pass from Seaborn to
Darion Moseley, which set up a 1-yard
Seaborn run into the endzone to make it 17-17.
Thompson was able to take the lead late in the third thanks to a 50-yard field goal from McGuire
to go up 20-17, but Hoover was able to answer with just over three minutes to play to tie it at 20-
20. Thompson led a drive to try and score as time expired with an acrobatic near catch at the
goal line by
Anquon Fegans, but it fell incomplete and it was off to overtime.
In OT, Thompson scored on a 7-yard pass from Seaborn to Moseley, but the extra point was
blocked. Hoover was able to score two plays into their drive and hit the PAT for the win.
Seaborn finished 12/28 for 178 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He also has 7 yards
rushing and a touchdown.
Michael Dujon had 11 carries for 89 yards and a touchdown. Darion
Moseley led all receivers with 5 catches for 84 yards and a touchdown.
Vini Pires and
Trent Cheatom led the defense with 13 tackles a piece. Cheatom also had three
tackles for loss including a sack.
Anquon Fegans and
Terry Robinson both had interceptions in
the game.
The win locks up the region title for Hoover and locks Thompson into second. The Warriors will
be home in the first round of the playoffs against the third seed out of Region 1, which has still
yet to be decided.
The Warriors still have one more region game left, a home date with region newcomer Prattville.
