Thompson opens playoffs against Daphne at Warrior Stadium

The 2024 postseason is here, and the playoff bracket is set with Thompson coming in
as the second seed in 7A Region 3. The Warriors will start the postseason against the
same team they faced in the spring as they welcome the Daphne Trojans to Warrior
Stadium. Daphne finished third in region 1 behind Mary Montgomery and Baker.
Daphne comes in with a 7-3 record, going 5-2 in region play. After starting 3-3 on the
season, Daphne has since rattled off four straight wins before a bye in the final week.
They earned the third seed by defeating Fairhope back on October 18. They lost to
region champion Mary Montgomery 21-8 and region runner-up Baker 27-21.
Thompson finished the season with a big win over Prattville 42-7 to also finish 7-3, with
a region record of 6-1. Thompson has yet to trail after four quarters yet this season,
losing all three games by 1 point in overtime. The Warriors finished fifth in the final
ASWA poll.
Daphne and Thompson have only met once in the fall, with Daphne defeating
Thompson back in 2001 in the first round of the playoffs 42-7. Daphne would go on to
win the state championship that year over Hoover 48-21, led by former AHSAA
executive director Steve Savarese as head coach. Daphne has only won one other
state title, back in 2010 where they also beat Hoover 7-6.
Thompson is led by sophomore quarterback Trent Seaborn who had his best regular
season throwing for 1,935 yards, completing over 62% of his passes for 18 touchdowns
and six interceptions. Michael Dujon leads all rushers with 782 yards on 92 carries with
11 rushing touchdowns. RJ Evans has added another 488 yards with five rushing
touchdowns. Darion Moseley has emerged as the leading receiver with 27 catches for
441 yards and six touchdowns. 10 different players have caught a touchdown pass from
Seaborn.
On defense, Trent Cheatom leads all players with 91 total tackles including 8 tackles for
loss. Jared Smith leads in that category with an impressive 17 tackles for loss including
6.5 sacks and 16 QB hurries. 15 players have recorded multiple tackles for loss.
Anquon Fegans has pulled in four interceptions. Fegans has scored a touchdown in all
three phases of the game via a reception on offense, two fumble recoveries for
touchdowns and a kickoff return for a touchdown.
The playoffs are different this year, so the winner of this game will face the winner of
Auburn and Bob Jones in round two. If Thompson wins, it will be a road game
regardless.
