The Warriors hit the road for the first time this season as Thompson traveled to Nashville, TN to
take on Lipscomb Academy in a return game after the Mustangs came to Alabaster two years
ago and defeated Thompson 24-14 on national television. This time, a 27-21 revenge win for
Thompson improved the Warriors to 1-1 as they head into region play.
In the opening week, Thompson failed to convert an offensive touchdown in regulation against
Grayson, but that wasn't a problem this week as
Trent Seaborn led the offense down the field
on the opening possession going 7/8 for 83 yards - capped off by a
Michael Dujon 1-yard
touchdown run.
Early in the second quarter, Lipscomb got their first touchdown on the board to make it 7-7.
However, the tie game only lasted a few seconds as
Anquon Fegans returned the following
kickoff from the 7-yard line all the way to the other side of the field for a touchdown to go back
up 13-7 after a failed extra point.
Following a fumble recovery from
Seth Green, the Warriors got a short field and drove down
with Dujon scoring his second touchdown of the game on an 8-yard reception from Seaborn to
go up 20-7 at halftime.
In the third quarter, after trading a few drives, Lipscomb was able to take advantage of a special
teams turnover from Thompson and score to make it 20-14. Not long after that,
Michael Dujon
rattled off his longest run of the season with a 68-yard rushing touchdown to put the Warriors
back up 27-14 late in the third.
Lipscomb Academy tried everything they could in the final quarter to bring the game back in
their favor, finally scoring on a long drive with 1:53 left to bring it back to 27-20. However, after
illegally touching the onside kick, the Warriors got the ball back and after a strong Dujon first
down, the Warriors were able to take a knee and leave Nashville with a win.
Michael Dujon ended the game with 127 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground, returning from
injury in game one. He added 4 catches for 12 yards and a receiving touchdown as well.
Seaborn ended the game at 19/27 for 163 yards and a touchdown. Seaborn spread the ball
around to seven different receivers, including four receivers with at least 4 catches.
Trey Knight
led all receivers with 4 catches for 47 yards.
On top of the kickoff return for a touchdown and recording his first catch of the season on
offense,
Anquon Fegans ended the game with 7 tackles (including a tackle for loss).
Vini Pires
led the defense with 13 tackles while
Noah Streeter had the lone sack in the game for the
defense.
Micah Fleming, Jared Smith and
Damonte Tabb also recorded tackles for loss.
Thompson begins region play on the road next week against Tuscaloosa County on Friday,
September 6 at 7:00 pm.
