Following a 42-7 win over Oak Mountain this past Friday night, the Thompson Warriors are set
to head to Vestavia Hills in an important 7A Region 3 battle before the mid-way point in the
season.
Vestavia comes into the game after winning their first game of the season last week 49-17 over
region newcomer Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa. The Rebels are led by quarterback Charliee Taaffee who
rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns along with 11/17 passing for 191 yards and two
touchdowns.
Vestavia struggled early in the season, losing to two Region 2 opponents, including in the
AHSAA Kickoff Classic to Carver-Montgomery 41-19 and on the road at Auburn 52-17. The
Rebels then lost a heartbreaking game to Region 3 rival Hewitt-Trussville on a touchdown in the
final minute to lose 18-14.
Meanwhile, Thompson enters the game on a 3 game winning streak, holding each of their
Region 3 opponents to only 7 points each. After an opening week loss to Grayson (GA), the
Warriors have defeated Lipscomb Academy (TN), Tuscaloosa County and Oak Mountain.
Trent Seaborn has led the offense this season completing 51/81 (63%) for 532 yards, six
touchdowns and three interceptions. Michael Dujon leads all rushers with 38 carries for 365
yards, averaging 9.6 yards per carry and scoring six total touchdowns. RJ Evans has added
another 155 yards and three touchdowns. Pryce Lewis leads all receivers with 13 catches for
125 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, Vini Pires leads all tacklers with 40, including three tackles for loss. Jared Smith
has accumulated 33 total tackles including nine tackles for loss with five sacks.
John Alan McGuire is 17/18 in PATs this season, and 1/1 in field goals. He is also averaging
43.6 yards per punt with his long of 63 coming last week against Oak Mountain and half of his
punts have been inside the 20.
Thompson is 16-14 all time versus Vestavia Hills, and won 10 in a row including second round
playoff games each of the last two years. The Rebels will look to get their first win in the series
since 2015.
