Thompson faces defending 6A state champion Clay-Chalkville

After beginning the season 4-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in region play, Thompson is set to host
defending 6A state champion Clay-Chalkville to Warrior Stadium for the third straight year as the
Warriors look to test themselves in a week off from region play.
Clay-Chalkville comes into the match-up at 4-0, having outscored their opponents 177-14 in the
first four weeks. The Cougars come into the game off a bye week and are 2-0 in 6A Region 6.
This begins a tough final stretch for Clay-Chalkville that includes Thompson, Mountain Brook,
Oxford, rival Pinson Valley and fellow Region 3 foe Vestavia Hills to end the season, with four of
those five games being on the road.
Thompson has only faced Clay-Chalkville four total times in their history, as the Cougar football
program didn't exist until 1996. Thompson is 1-3 against Clay, with their lone win coming in
2022 in a 17-14 victory in Warrior Stadium. Last season, Clay won 36-33 after a near comeback
from the Warriors.
Clay-Chalkville does look a little different this year, with star quarterback Jaylen Mbakwe moving
on to play defensive back for Alabama and new head coach Stuart Floyd who is only in his
second overall year as a head coach after a season at Mortimer Jordan in 2021.
Both Thompson and Clay-Chalkville come in at #3 in their respective classifications according to
the ASWA poll, but both are considered top 4 teams in the state according to the Massey/On3
rankings.
This game of the week in Alabama will be headlined by Thompson's defense who put up a
stellar performance last week at Vestavia with three defensive touchdowns from Jared Smith,
Micah Fleming and Anquon Fegans. That makes five non-offensive touchdowns this season for
the Warriors, three of them coming from Fegans (two on defense and one kickoff return).
Michael Dujon led the offense last week with 168 yards on just 14 carries and a touchdown,
putting him over 500 yards on the season with seven total touchdowns. Quarterback Trent
Seaborn comes in having thrown for 549 yards and six touchdowns of his own to six different
receivers, with Pryce Lewis leading all receivers with 13 catches for 125 yards and a
touchdown.
This is a match-up the entire state will have eyes on this Friday. Make sure to come out and
support your Warriors Friday, and get there early for Homecoming festivities. If you can't make
it, the game will be streamed on the Warrior Nation Network as always, starting with the Lowe's
Tailgate Show on the THS Athletics Facebook page at 6 pm.
