The Thompson Warriors are once again kings of Class 7A, Region 3. Behind a strong running performance from Urijah Casey and a dominant defensive effort in the fourth quarter, the Warriors defeated Prattville 29-15 on the road Friday night to clinch the region championship.
Casey led the way for Thompson, finding the end zone twice on the ground as the Warriors controlled the pace throughout the second half. After holding a slim lead entering the fourth quarter, the Thompson defense stepped up in a big way, shutting down the Lions and keeping them scoreless in the final period to seal the victory.
The win marks another milestone for the Warriors, who continue their streak of region dominance under head coach Mark Freeman. With the regular season winding down, Thompson will now turn its attention to closing out strong and preparing for the Class 7A playoffs — where they'll enter once again as one of the favorites to make a deep run. The Warriors will hoast Carver-Montgomery for the 2nd time this season in the first round of the 7A Playoffs.
