The Thompson Warriors battled in a hard-fought contest on Thursday night but came up just short in a 28-24 loss to Clay-Chalkville on the road. In a matchup of two powerhouse programs, both teams traded big plays throughout the night, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
Thomspon struck first, but the Cougars answered back with a balanced offensive attack, mixing the run and pass to move the ball effectively. Thompson's defense, led by standout corner Damonte Tabb, made key stops, including a few pass breakups that kept the game within reach. The Cougars, however, managed to find the end zone late in the game, reclaiming the lead after Thompson had surged ahead earlier in the second half.
Despite a strong push in the final minutes, the Warriors couldn't convert on their last drive to retake control. The 28-24 defeat marks Thompson's first non-region loss of the season, but the Warriors remain unbeaten in region play at 3-0 and will look to bounce back quickly with plenty of important games still ahead.
