ALABASTER – It was complete dominance on both ends of the pitch when the Thompson Warriors took on the Calera Eagles at home on the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 24.
When it was all said and done, the Warriors found themselves in a good position, finishing the contest on the positive end of a 4-0 final score.
It took some time for the contest to get moving from an offensive perspective, but Thompson gave the home crowd what it was waiting for around the midway point of the first half.
During the 20th minute, sophomore
Aram Arreola was able to find a ball placed from width by senior
Aiden Bruce. Arreola ended up putting that ball in the back of the net for the game's first goal.
There was more offense to come for the Warriors before the conclusion of the first half, however.
A well-placed corner kick by Arreola in the 34th minute set sophomore Dylan Huerta up for the second goal of the evening, which provided Thompson with a 2-0 lead to take with them into halftime.
The second half had a quiet start, as no scoring took place until there were about 12 minutes remaining in the contest.
During the 68th minute of the game, Arreola had the opportunity to extend his mark on the night even further. He put a ball past the goalkeeper for the second time, and that one came from a wide assist by senior Junior Amezcua.
Thompson was not done putting points on the board. During the 75th minute, senior Brandon Ramirez fielded a ball off a wide assist from senior Gael Martinez and sent it to the net for the Warriors' final goal of the night, extending their lead to 4-0.
Junior goalkeeper Alex Casillas was also a crucial part of Thompson's performance, as he prevented Calera from putting any goals of its own on the board.
The Warriors (7-2) return to action on the evening of Thursday, Feb. 26, when they host the Briarwood Christian Lions at 7 p.m.
The Eagles (6-4-1) also return to action on the evening of Thursday, Feb. 26, when they take on Northridge at home.
