Thompson enters the week at a perfect 5-0 in region play as they host the Hoover Buccaneers
at Warrior Stadium this Friday in a crucial region showdown.
Although both teams still have a region game remaining on their schedule, a win in this game
would lock up the region championship and first seed for region 3 in the AHSAA 7A football
playoffs. Thompson has locked up a top two seed regardless of the result and will host in the
first round of the playoffs. However, if Thompson defeats Hoover, the Bucs will have work to do
in their rivalry game against Vestavia the following week to lock up a top two seed.
Hoover enters the game at 6-2 overall on the season with losses to Parker and rival Spain Park
– two of the top 6A teams in the state. They defeated Western High School out of Florida in
Week 0 for their lone non-region win.
Hoover is led by senior quarterback Mac Beason, who is coming off a big performance against
Tuscaloosa County last week where he was 12/16 for 222 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Thompson is led by sophomore quarterback
Trent Seaborn who earned player of
the game honors last week at Hillcrest after going 30/42 for 403 yards with four touchdowns. He
connected with six different receivers for 3+ catches with three of them scoring touchdowns.
Michael Dujon and
RJ Evans combined for 304 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns.
Seaborn has completed 63.3% of his passes this season with 12 scores. Meanwhile Dujon has
759 all purpose yards with 10 touchdowns while Evans has 621 all purpose yards with 6
touchdowns.
Darion Moseley leads all receivers with 16 catches for 231 yards and two
touchdowns.
On defense,
Trent Cheatom leads the way with 73 total tackles including four tackles for loss.
Jared Smith leads the way in tackles for loss with 16 on the season including 6.5 sacks and 14
quarterback hurries.
Anquon Fegans leads in the secondary with 49 tackles, including six
tackles for loss, and has three interceptions, two caused fumbles and two fumble recoveries that
have both been returned for touchdowns, as well as a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Thompson defeated Hoover 21-11 in their last meeting at the end of last season. While Hoover
holds the series lead 24-9 over the Warriors, Thompson has won 9 of the last 12 match-ups
including five straight playoff wins over the Bucs. Thompson and Hoover have combined for the
last eight region titles with four a piece.
With the new playoff format for Class 7A, winning the region for Thompson ensures a home
game for the first round, and a high probability of a home game in round two. Finishing second
in the region guarantees a home game in round one, but it guarantees a road game in round
two to either region 2 or region 4.
